Excel 2010: What is a Microsoft PowerPivot?

Microsoft® PowerPivot for Excel is an Excel 2010 add-in that allows users to pull data from multiple sources, efficiently manage and manipulate large data sets (often millions of rows), and then develop reports using regular pivot tables. PowerPivot also provides capability for creating and sharing reports using SharePoint.
